IT, BPO boss signs lucrative book deal
By Tito

Jerry Rao, the Mphasis boss has been signed by the recently launched New Delhi based Osian’s Literary Agency (the publishing venture of Osian’s Connoisseurs of Art, India's first art auction house) for two of his upcoming books. The first book focusing on the anecdotal history of India’s IT sector will feature a one-to-one talk with N.R Narayana Murthy, F.C Kohli, Kiran Karnik in addition to other big names in the software domain.

The second book, a work of non fiction, traces the author’s journeys through the cities of Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Kolkata, highlighting the changing face of contemporary India. Both the books are scheduled to be published by Penguin India in the near future, for which Jerry Rao has been paid an impressive advance.

It might not be out of place to mention here that Jerry Rao also holds 5 % equity stake in Osian’s. A published poet and a regular columnist with The Indian Express ( as Jaithirth Rao), he is reportedly working on a second book of poems in addition to a historical fiction set in the 16th century.

Techgoss note: Jerry Rao , who seems to have embarked on a writing spree has earlier been “booked” by Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal in their book “The Scam: From Harshad Mehta to Ketan Parekh” which chronicles the infamous Indian stock market scam of the early 1990s. The book describes in detail the role played by Jerry Rao, the then head of Citibank India. Citibank finally had to pay a fine of more than Rs 50 crores for its role in the scam.

Techgoss note:  Jerry Rao has a distinguished academic background having studied at IIM-A and the University of Chicago.  He was in the top echelons of Citibank before founding software company MphasiS in 1998.  Like many senior executives in the Indian tech industry he has won a number of distinguished awards.  Jerry is also a past Chairman of NASSCOM.  EDS purchased Mphasis, and Jerry now heads EDS/Mphasis operations in India.
