Dell Outing:  Simple breakfast and refurbished laptops
By Nosmo King

Dell, Philippines held its summer outing on May 25 at Splash Mountain, a pool resort in Los Banos, Laguna.  Two sites in the Philippines, Dell Libis and Dell Pasay, participated in this fun team building exercise. The venue was closed to members of the public so that Dell employees had exclusive access to the pools and rides.  Most of the participants were quite disappointed with the resort.

The pools were beautiful but the resort was not large enough to accommodate a few hundred Dell employees. The resort was too narrow and only the Dell libis group was able to go near the stage since they came earlier than the Pasay group. There were also no rooms or lockers were people could leave their belongings, only shared cottages. One person was assigned ‘guard duty’ at the cottage to secure the personal belongings of the Dell team.

As the activities started early morning, people rushed to start the day with a healthy, nutritious breakfast.  Many were disappointed with the breakfast that was prepared. Only a piece of "ensaymada" bread was served with soda. As early as 10 am, people were already hungry and started forming lines for lunch. With such a large crowd, it took a lot of time for lunch to be served.

But there was some fun to be had. There were a lot of games and raffle draws for the summer activity. Gift certificates worth 1000 and 2000 Php were given to winners, as well as free laptops and desktops. But unlike the last Christmas party where the systems were brand new, the freebies were refurbished systems.

The dell Idol championship was also held during the event. Dell idol is a singing contest for dell techs and was open to both Pasay and Libis offices.  By all accounts, everyone enjoyed the music.  Desiree was adjudged the Dell Idol 2008.

The activity was supposed to end at around 5 pm in the afternoon, but soon after lunch, techs were already going home. Some Techs were exhausted not to mention hungry.

Techgoss note:  One Php is roughly equal to one Indian rupee
