Bpo 24/7 Customer closes in Gurgaon By Mahesh PV
When the clock struck 12pm on the night on July 31, 2008, the end was official. 24/7 Customer closed shop at Gurgaon and its offices at. 231, Udyog Vihar Phase -1 looked deserted. The security guard was the only one busy on his shift. The shop-floor (as the operations floor is called) fell silent. Voices in this Call Center went silent, sadly forever. 450 people were laid off by 24/7 Customer a few days back, and 24/7 management had claimed to have helped them get alternate employment. Of the 450 employees who lost jobs, only 180 were able to land new jobs according to official figures circulated by the Company among its employees. An estimated 50 have landed jobs without the company’s assistance. Still leaving 220 without a job to go to. The employees had accused the Company of not fulfilling its promises of proper redundancy packages. They had written to the Vice President Animesh who had spoken to groups of employees about the future. He was accused of presenting one set of facts in his presentation and then of amending the presentation later on to accommodate the company’s position. It is learnt through reliable sources that the VP made hour long presentations to groups of 40 employees between July 1 and July 4. Despite repeated attempts, Animesh did not have one to one sessions. Nor did he personally meet any employees who wanted a copy of the presentation that he had made.
