Indian Politician Facebook campaign By Satyaki Verma
In the United States, politicians have been successfully using social networking to further their political aims. Case in point is Barack Obama who has close to 1 and a half million supporters on his Fan Page on Facebook. Barack Obama had the foresight to hire Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes to join his team in 2007, a move which paid rich dividends. Obama has also raised tens of millions of dollars via the net.
Indian politicians have not really jumped onto the social networking political bandwagon because of the relatively smaller numbers, and a vote bank that is not nearly as lucrative as other alternatives.
But this trend is changing.
TechGoss has just uncovered one such campaign that is going to be undertaken by an Indian Politician Milind Deora who is making an organized, systematic push on Facebook that may prove to be a wise investment.
His supporters have formed a group called the ‘Future of Mumbai… The Future of India’
The group is currently a secret group and has only 1 member. Over time, however, Milind Deora and his team want to create interesting conversations in this group (focussed on Mumbai of course); and at a later stage they want to bring in Milind Deora (who is on Facebook) to this group and leverage on the enthusiasm of the group. Makes sense for a politician who represents (probably) India’s new generation.
Milind Deora is the son of renowned Maharastrian politician Murli Deora, and a rising star in Indian politics. 32-year old Milind has opted for a career in politics rather than running a successful family business. After doing his basic education from Mumbai he studied for a Bachelors degree in Management from Boston Uni, USA. He was elected as an MP in 2004.
For now we have snooped out the initial details, we will keep you in the loop and give you more insider goss as it comes along.
