IIT Techie does Tehelka like sting
By Nitin Paul

In a bizarre incident reported recently in Gurgaon, a newly-wed young woman, aged about 23, allegedly conspired with the family driver to eliminate her father-in-law, a senior manager with a top notch Indian telecom company, in an apparent bid to take control of his property and wealth. For this, the Bahu had promised to gift the driver Rs. 50 lakhs after the 'assignment' was over.

The driver was allegedly paid Rs. 15,000 as advance for the job.  However, the plan was uncovered and reported to the police before it could be executed as the loyal driver disclosed the conspiracy to his employer.  The woman’s father-in-law is R. K Goyal, a senior Vice President with Tata Tele Services, and a highly respected manager in India.

Goyal served the Indian Army in its Telecom Division for 27 years before joining the corporate telecom world and has been in it for the last 12 years now. More important to report here is that this IIT alumnus, RK Goyal, did not loose his cool after getting to know of the plot against him and used his technical expertise for recording the conversation between his driver and daughter-in-law Shilpee. Later, he produced two CDs with audio and video clippings containing enough proof against Shilpee who could be heard discussing with the driver Ashok the planning of the elimination of Mr. Goyal and his wife.

Goyal also hired the services of a Delhi-based detective agency that planted the secret video cameras and audio recorders for recording the conversation between Shilpee and the driver. The secret gadgets were planted in the pocket of the driver's shirt as well as in the car Shilpee would use. She married RK Goyal’s son Kapil in April this year.  In the recorded CDs, Shilpee can been seen enjoying a cup of tea along with her sister and mother in the presence of the driver at her mother's house in Delhi and discussing loopholes in the conspiracy to eliminating her father-in-law. In those CDs, Shilpee can be seen cautioning the driver against all possible mistakes and advising him to delete phone record from his mobile. "One can later wonder as to why we had been talking so much to each other over phone, therefore it was necessary to delete the phone record," Shilpee is seen discussing in the CD.  According to the Cyber City Gurgaon police officials, Shilpee had asked the driver to eliminate Goyal in such a manner that it should look like an accident and not murder.

Shilpee, who is a graduate in architecture engineering, was later arrested along with her brother and mother on the charges of luring the driver into the murder of Goyal and were sent to jail.  Shilpee alleged that she had been living separately to the Goyal family and her husband Kapil for the past one and a half months. When asked about the reason, she alleged that Col Goyal and her husband had started beating her up and had been demanding dowry.  She also charged the Goyal family of deceiving her as she was not told before marriage that her husband Kapil was partly intellectually challenged.  Her father–in-law Goyal acted against her and implicated her in the false case out of sheer fear that she would drag him to the court for lying to her about the ill mental health of his son, she claimed.

Everyone in India should do such sting operations as this kind of evidence proves their case in court. Mr Goyal, well done.
