Convergys manager arrested
By Rahul Kumar

45-year old Miss Janie Ellismarry Thardekar, an NRI working with Convergys BPO was arrested by a team of West Bengal Police officials from her office in Gurgaon on Friday evening. Janie, who is living in DLF City, Gurgaon was wanted in a case of theft of antique items which she had allegedly stolen from a house in Kolkatta some time back.  The arrest has sent shock waves in the respected BPO.

The police officials said that she had illegally taken away some of the wall mounted antique items from the house in Madhavpur of district 24 Pargana in West Bengal where she was  living as a tenant  before moving to Gurgaon. DCP (East) Jagdish Nagar said that the Kolkatta police officials had approached Gurgaon police and sought their help in arresting Janie in a case of theft of antique items. He said, "Our officials accompanied them and helped them to locate her home in DLF City. Currently, she was employed with Convergys BPO at Vipul Agora Complex, MG Road in Gurgaon. She was wanted by Kolkata police in a case of theft of antique items. We were told by Kolkatta police officials that a case of theft was filed in Madhavpur police station."

According to the Gurgaon police officials, Janie was taken into custody from her office at MG Road after she was not found in her DLF City house by the Kolkata police team.  Following her arrest, the Kolkata police officials produced her in the court of Judicial Magistrate (1st Class) Ekta Gauba at 9.00 pm the same day and took her away on transit remand back to Kolkatta. The Kolkata police officials did not allow Janie to speak to the media persons.  However, Janie's lawyers claimed that Kolkata police officials did not follow the legal procedure required to arrest their client who was an NRI. The American embassy was not duly informed about her arrest, they alleged.  Kolkata police officials denied the charges and said that all legal formalities related to the arrest were followed.
