600 Km Walk promotes Free Software By ITBangbug
Zyxware Technologies, a Thiruvananthapuram based IT Company is organising a 600 km walk across Kerala to spread the message of ‘Freedom in Software’. Starting from Kasaragod, the northern tip of Kerala on October 2nd (Gandhi Jayanti day), the walk will culminate in Thiruvananthapuram, the southern end of Kerala on November 14th (Children’s day).
During the walk, a team of volunteers led by Zyxware CEO, Anoop John, will be actively promoting the free software movement in each district of Kerala by organising seminars and talks at educational institutions and non profit organisations. The idea is also to build vibrant and active Free Software Communities throughout the state through GNU/Linux Users Groups. The volunteers will be touching all the 14 district headquarters in Kerala during the six weeks trip.
The progress and updates during the different phases of the Freedom Walk will be regularly updated on their website www.freedomwalk.in. Visitors at the site will also be able to interact with the team on a regular and real time basis during the walk. The organisers also plan to have couple of web based systems on this site which will become a collaborative platform for connecting with like-minded organizations and individuals. As part of this effort they plan to offer free technical consultancy, web hosting and related services for organised groups like nature clubs, social forestry clubs etc., to help them grow and make use of the power of Information Technology in effectively growing and spreading the message of conservation.
