Microsoft Ad throws up By Shalini Singh
Microsoft is the world’s biggest software company and hundreds of millions of people every day use its Internet Explorer to surf the web.
Launched in 1995, Internet Explorer (IE) soon took over the world. Microsoft bundled it with its core operating system thus ensuring dedicated web browsers like Netscape could never compete. By 2003, it had grabbed 95 percent of the market share.
Internet Explorer is constantly evolving with the latest IE 8 released in March, 2009.
But competing browsers – Firefox and Safari - are taking away some of the IE market. The European Union has asked Microsoft not to bundle its IE with its Operating System.
But it seems that Microsoft is hell bent on losing a few more percentage points by launching crazy advertising campaigns promoting IE 8. A Microsoft advertisement released last week shows a woman at a breakfast table throwing up after stumbling across the ‘adult’ websites viewed by her partner. The ad ends with the message that the IE 8 has a feature that does not log all the porn sites you have visited.
This advertisement is not for the squeamish. It has very graphic shots of the woman throwing up. The ad is gross. (7/1/2009) |
