Infosys offices:  Airport like security
By Bala Shah

Even as the cowardly, cruel terrorists plot their next attack on an increasingly prosperous India, some of our iconic tech companies are preparing themselves for a worse case scenario.  Infosys, as a respected symbol of India’s growing empowerment, is well prepared.  Techgoss spoke to a few Infosys managers about the well planned security cocoon for their techies.

Understandably, these managers who gave us the following information about their Bangalore DC prefer anonymity.  Last Monday, the Rapid Action Force visited the Infosys Campus, Bangalore to double check the security arrangements.  By all accounts, they were satisfied that the 15,000 Infosys employees are well protected.

Infosys has taken a number of steps to protect their business and employees.

-  Nobody, bar none, is allowed in without the Infosys ID card.  If an employee forgets their card, a temporary ID car with their PIC is issued to them.  Security immediately accosts you for an explanation if you do not have one displayed on your body when you are within the Infosys zone.

- No Visitors are allowed till further notice. Till the third week of November, visitors were allowed with employees at weekend.  This is now restricted.

-  All personal belongings are physically checked and registered. Laptops, cameras, hardware, software etc have to be declared and are registered to the owning employee.

- Security Guards at Check In Gate.  An armed guard is at each gate.  At Gate No. 6, which is most commonly used, there are even scanning machines for bags.

- Anyone entering the Infosys Bus Stand has to go through physical checks and metal detectors.  The walking route is clearly earmarked.  You are only allowed to walk on pedestrian areas.  Everything else is fenced out with a ‘Do Not Cross’ ribbon.

- In some areas mobile phones are not allowed.  Certain high security areas can only be accessed via palm recognition.

-  In case there is a fire or explosion, each area has an assigned Disaster Recover Representative (DRR) who wears red caps.  They are trained to guide people in an emergency.  Regular drills are done to rush people into ‘Safe Assembly Areas’.

-  Last but not the least all Infosys employees feel safe because their management has installed CCTV cameras to monitor the entire premises.
