Gmail users more engaged By Ria Sharma
At a global level, Yahoo mail is the market leader followed by Hotmail. Google Mail (aka Gmail) has about 150 million users worldwide and growing by the day.
The American email market has the 3 internet giants holding the same position.
People chose a particular email system based on a number of factors including recommended by family and friends, being used at school or college, great primary products like search engine, clever features, marketing etc, etc.
But there are some usage habits which are more complicated to understand.
Mailchimp has just published research based on analyzing 184 million American emails and found that Gmail users are more ‘engaged’ than other mail systems. The ‘Open Rate’ for Gmail was 30.94 percent, Hotmail was 23.79 and Yahoo was 24.54. The ‘Click Rate’ to open links for Gmail was 7.41 %, Hotmail was 4.49 and Yahoo was 4.17%.
Why the N/A in ‘Abuse Complaint Rate’ for Gmail? Only because Google has no feedback loop.
There could be a number of reasons for the Gmail pattern usage being so different to other email systems. The first is demographic. Another reason could be a strong confidence in the Gmail Spam prevention systems and thus getting the security to click on embedded links.
