Police impress MS interns By Bala Shah
Despite the recession, software giant Microsoft (MS) earned revenues of $13 billion in the quarter ending June, 2009. Its software touches most homes in some shape or form.
While Microsoft owes much of its success to first strike, quality products and a finely tuned ‘take no prisoners’ marketing machine, it is in constant battles with other giants like Google and IBM to recruit the cream of talent in USA.
Despite cutting staff by 5000, Microsoft pulls all stops to recruit the best and brightest. Chicago Tribune is reporting that Microsoft gave the VIP treatment to the 1000 Summer Interns flown to head quarters from every part of the country. These interns are paid as much as $6000 a month.
“ On the same day that Microsoft Corp. reported some of its worst financial results ever earlier this summer, a dozen buses left the company's headquarters campus. During rush hour, they headed toward the highway as a phalanx of police officers on motorcycles shut down the on-ramps ahead, clearing the path to a local museum.
Microsoft had rented the museum for a private party and a screening of the most recent " Harry Potter" movie. After the film, the roughly 600 attendees received a free Xbox 360 video-game console.
The recipients of the VIP treatment? Microsoft's summer interns. “
