Wipro sacks senior manager By Bala Shah
Even though Wipro started as a business in 1945, it only launched its technology division in 1980. Since then, Wipro has become a major player in the global IT, BPO and KPO outsourcing industry. In India, it is No. 2 in the domestic IT Services market. Last year, it had revenues of US $6 Billion. Wipro has a workforce of 108,000 and 72 global delivery centers in 55 countries.
Regular readers of Techgoss are well aware that a large number of our articles are crowd sourced. People send in tips, story ideas and even articles. Many of our contributors have full times jobs in IT-ITES, and so prefer using a pseudonym. Sadly, some tips sent to Techgoss cannot be used because they do not have enough facts, details or documentation.
But on July 29, we received a tip which was so detailed that it needed to be brought to the attention of our readers. Wipro BPO has just ‘let go’ a Service Delivery Leader RR* after charges of harassment were leveled against him. This Leader was managing a US Healthcare Inbound Voice Process in two locations - Belapur and Kolkata. After a number of complaints were made against him, he was asked to move to Wipro Powai ostensibly to manage an ISP Process. But this was a clever move by Wipro management to investigate all the complaints against him by moving him to a new place. To the credit of the Wipro Compliance Team, they moved quickly and interviewed a number of people and found the allegations to be true. The Wipro management, despite lobbying by RR’s* supporters, sacked him.
RR* - Techgoss has suppressed his real name at this point in time because we need to double check every fact before naming names. Only when we have irrefutable proof in the form of hard evidence, will we publish names in such sensitive cases. Having said that, Wipro, and any company that moves against senior managers who face serious complaints, have to be publicly recognized for doing the right thing.
