Cougar prowls Microsoft By Techgirl
Being a Bombay girl, I have met some IIT students and techies who have had encounters with Leopards at the sprawling IIT Campus in Powai. One even had a photograph of a crocodile near the IIT campus. Students at IIT Madras often enjoy the playful antics of deers who cross over from the nearby National Park.
Techflash is now reporting about a Cougar being sighted at the Microsoft Redmond Campus in USA. Microsoft USA has given the following instructions to their techies if they meet the dreaded animal. A Cougar is a mountain lion and has been known to even kill horses.
“ -- Never approach a cougar. Although cougars will normally avoid a confrontation, all cougars are unpredictable. Cougars feeding on a kill may be dangerous.
-- Always give a cougar an avenue of escape.
--Stay calm. Talk to the cougar in a confident voice.
--Pick all children up off the ground immediately. Children frighten easily and their rapid movements may provoke an attack.
--Do not run. Try to back away from the cougar slowly. Sudden movement or flight may trigger an instinctive attack. Do not turn your back on the cougar. Face the cougar and remain upright.
--Do all you can to enlarge your image. Don't crouch down or try to hide. Pick up sticks or branches and wave them about. “
As you can imagine, the jokes are coming in thick and fast. In American, single older women who prey on young men are known as Cougars. Also, Microsoft has announced a staff reduction of 5000 employees. Rival Apple has released a new operating system Snow Leopard. Enough material for tens of Microsoft Cougar jokes.
