Looks like the list is getting longer with the passing of each year!
We take a short glimpse at the last three incidents that happened this very month.
Yahoo Taiwan, hired female entertainers who lap danced for attendees and gave male participants some cheap thrills on their Open Hack Day 2009 in Oct, 2009. YDN head Chris Yeh reportedly apologized immediately. But last year they hired go-go girls for the same event, and there has been no noise over that issue yet. The photographs and video of the event available initially on flickr have now disappeared.
The Marvel Halloween costumes released in October follows the same sexist trend as their earlier products. The suggestion to females to dress like a ‘Marvel slut’ had raised a storm of protests.
In early October 2009 AMP Energy drinks (owned by PepsiCo), launched an iPhone app designed to help men "score" with women by providing information and pick-up lines designed to appeal to 24 different "types" of woman. Further, the app lets men broadcast their "conquests" via Facebook and Twitter. Which female wants to be listed on twitter or Facebook as a ‘conquest’?
How far will the sexists go? And what price equality and decency for women, even in the highly educated techie world?
