Convergys Dhaba gives Convergys indigestion By Rahul Kumar
Indian roadside eatery Convergys Dhaba, popular amongst the BPO agent fraternity, just outside the Convergys BPO in tech hub Gurgaon, is in the line of fire again. After being demolished by the enforcement wing for its unauthorized location on the green belt along the National Highway in January, the Dhaba has relocated to a place next to the boundary wall of the BPO.
The BPO authorities have petitioned the Gurgaon administration in North India and urged that the Dhaba be removed from there as they feared for the lives of their employees. The BPO has contended that because of the proximity of the gas stoves owned by the dhaba with that of the underground fuel tank which is inside the boundary wall of the building, there could arise a possibility of a blast endangering the lives of the employees. The diesel fuel tank with the capacity of 40,000 litres, stores fuel for running the captive power plants for running BPO operations uninterrupted even in the event of failure of regular power supply.
Earlier in January too, the Enforcement Wing of the Town & Country Planning department had launched an offensive removing all unauthorized structures from the green belt all along the highway. The Convergys dhaba was one of the encroachments that were removed. However, this time the dhaba has come up on the private land next to the BPO building. Dhaba is a favorite hot spot not only for the BPO employees but also for the travelers and locals who can enjoy the delicacies of the food almost on 24X7 basis.
The Convergys Dhaba has also figured as one of the select eateries of the Cybercity on a number of lifestyle websites such as tripadvisor.com, grapevine.in and many others. Fortunately, the top fire safety officials of the DLF Group that owns the building have said that since the pantry of the dhaba was on the other side of the eatery and the fuel tank was underground with about two feet soil on it, there was a very les chances of fire breaking out. On the other hand the administration too looks on a weak footing and said that since the dhaba this time relocated on to private land, the administration had no right to disturb it. The BPO agents are happy as they can now enjoy delicious food without any hindrance.
Convergys is one the largest BPO’s in the world. Operating for 30 years, it has clients in 70 countries and 35 languages. Convergys is a member of the S&P 500 and has been voted a Fortune Most Admired Company for seven consecutive years. It has 75000 employees in 84 Call Centres around the world.
