IBM bomb hoax over dowry
By Techgirl

Just when you think you have seen every petty Indian family fight and ingenious way to take revenge upon troublesome relatives, one stumbles on a new incident.  Our country has a billion people and probably 1 million ways of getting even in family fights. Some people in my own family spend half their time plotting and planning revenge on people who ‘hurt’ them.  Naturally, some incidents of ‘being hurt’ are real and some imagined. Same like many Indian families.

Mid-Day is reporting on how a Bangalore based man impersonated his estranged brother in law to buy a new mobile phone to ring in a bomb threat to IBM offices.

Two days after a bomb hoax call to the IT Company IBM, the police arrested a civil engineer who they said made the call from a number in his brother-in-law's name with the intention of implicating him in the case.

The police said the accused wanted to get back at his brother-in-law, a contractual employee at IBM, because he had lodged a dowry harassment case against him recently.

On the morning of November 13, the reception staff at IBM received a call from a mobile phone warning them of a bomb planted on the premises. The caller disconnected immediately after saying the bomb would go off in two hours.

When the police arrived at the mobile phone shop their investigations revealed that the mobile phone was brought in the brother in laws name with the obvious intention to frame him.

Cue to a Bollywood movie with this story line.  And a cheesy, silly line: “My wife is a bomb and her brother makes bomb threats”.
