Fake Computer conference? By Techgirl
Its ‘official’ website says that the International Conference on Futuristic Computer Applications is to be held in Bangalore on 20-21 March, 2010. And that the International Conference on Futuristic Computer Applications is a series of high-end conferences held under the aegis of the IJFCA Journal. They are aimed at discovering the new innovations in the field of futuristic computations. Traditionally, ICFCA focused on novel research transgressing multi-disciplinary branches of engineering and their contributions towards development of better computational environment.
But some determined research by super blogger Abi who is also on the faculty of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore reveals that this international conference may be a desi fake. Each Company has to pay $60 by Nov 20 to attend the conference next year.
Abi has just blogged
“ The brochure for the conference says that the conference is organized by ACM (Association of Computing Machinery). The website, however, is silent about the involvement of ACM. Similarly, the brochure mentions -- and the website is silent on -- the ACM Digital Library as a destination for the papers presented at the conference.
We now know why the conference website has been cleaned up. ACM says on its main page that the Conference Misrepresenting ACM as a Sponsor.
The brochure lists Google, Intel, Texas Instruments, HP, Philips, Yahoo Inc, Alcatel-Lucent Technologies, NASSCOM, and Vnysea as "supporting" the conference. While the website has their logos flashing in the left panel, its page for participating companies just thanks "all our current sponsors," without naming a single one of them. “
