Coke: Find your net Twin By Sumir Singh
It seems to work well in Bollywood movies. Twins get separated sometimes even to different countries. One is rich the other is poor. One has power the other is poor and helpless. But there is a happy ending in most such Bollywood movies. Taxi Chor, Chandni Chowk to China and most recently Kaminey were the stories of twin’s lost and found.
Do you ever feel that there is someone out on the internet who looks like you? Coca Cola has teamed up with Facebook to launch a new game ‘Coke Zero Facial Profiler’ which uses your profile information and photos to search for a digital twin on Facebook. Naturally, your twin should also have signed up to play this game.
Coke tries its best not to disappoint any ‘customer’. The game blurb for this ‘worldwide social experiment’ says: “The Facial Profiler uses next-gen facial recognition technology to analyze your face and then match it against faces from all over the world. If the algorithm can’t find a dead match, it often focuses on certain facial features like the eyes or the hairline. And some matches seem to share less tangible characteristics. A smile or sensibility. An attitude or vibe. Check out your match and see what you find.”
Not surprisingly, such a great idea is soon becoming a viral success. Facebook has 350 million members and so enough of a user base to make this game fun. (12/4/2009) |
