A Tipster wrote in about how CNBC has recognized two senior HCL bosses in the last two years, even as companies like Infosys, TCS and Wipro have missed out on the gongs.

Last week, the ninth annual CNBC Asia Business Leaders Awards held at Singapore and hosted by Maria Bartiromo, announced a number of awards including Asia Business Leader Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Asia Innovator Award, Asia Talent Management Award and Corporate Social Responsibility Award.  There was also an ‘Asia’s Viewers Choice Award’ which was given to the Chairman & CEO of HCL Infosystems, Mr. Ajai Chowdhry.  Unlike the other awards where the winners are selected by a jury, this award won by HCL Infosystems was based on ‘most votes by CNBC’s viewers in Asia Pacific.’

Out Tipster says he logged on to the CNBC Asia Pacific website but could not find any voting figures and numbers for this Asia Viewers Choice Award 2010. In Asia Pacific, Singapore head quartered CNBC says it is distributed to over 70 million households. What is the exact methodology of such online popularity contests?

Last week, the Asia Business Leader Award 2010 was won by Mr. A. M. Naik of Larsen & Toubro who is pushing for IT and HR as key pillars of his organization. The only Indian tech boss who has every won this Asia Business Leader Award was TCS’ CEO S. Ramadorai in 2002.  What I find surprising is that Infy’s Mr. Murthy has never won this award.  Could it be because Mr. Murthy was on the Board of rival TV network NDTV till last year?

Last year, the HCL Founder and Chairman, Mr. Nadar, was conferred the CNBC India Business Leaders Award 2009.
