Tech blog: suicide bomber

Pakistani tech and telecom blog ProPakistani.Pk has great articles and an engaged readership.  Despite launching only in May, 2008, it already gets 250,000 unique visitors per month.  It is recommended reading for anyone who wants to understanding the tech sector in Pakistan.

What happens when highly regarded tech blog ProPakistani.Pk attempts humour?  It publishes a satirical article ‘Exclusive Interview of a Suicide Attacker!!!’ which purports to be a telephonic interview with a suicide bomber on his way to this deadly mission.

A.B: Is it your first attempt for a suicide attack?
Suicide Attacker: No, last month I made an unsuccessful attempt. I could not accomplish my task.

A.B: Why, what happened?
Suicide Attacker: It was a Telecom lapse. I was using Mobilink Day Time ghanta offer. I had to call my mentor for final ‘khutba’ but I could not make a call as it was 7:05 p.m.

A.B: Oh! So what about today Sir?
Suicide Attacker: I am quite confident today. I am sure I will enjoy a sound sleep in heaven tonight.

A.B: How come you are that confident today?
Suicide Attacker: O baby! Ufone Solid Offer! Have you not heard about that???

Both Mobilink and UFone are Pakistani Telecom companies.

As you can see from the reader’s comments at the end of the satirical piece on Propakistani, not all readers were laughing at the Suicide Bomber.  Or even with the writer.

It took American comedians many years after 9/11 to incorporate Bin Laden into their talk shows.  Looks like Pakistan is not quite prepared for suicidal humor.

And you thought that geeks do not have a sense of humor. Well, you are right.
