Intelenet: Vodafone process to leave Mumbai
By Pulkit Sharma

Indian BPO Intelenet services a number of Fortune 500 companies in the UK, USA, Australia and India.  Supported processes span banking and finance, insurance, retail, telecom, information technology, travel and hospitality. Intelenet is backed by Blackstone, a leading Global Private Equity Player. In 2007, Intelenet acquired Upstream as well as Travelport.

Intelenet also owns Sparsh.

The Intelenet group has grown to 27 thousand employees across 30 locations making it the second largest employer in the Indian BPO space. Intelenet has been ranked amongst the Top 25 Employers in India as part of the Best Employers in India Study for 2009 conducted by Hewitt Associates in partnership with Outlook Business.  Intelenet Global Services has also been included in the Global Outsourcing 100 list of the best outsourcing service providers.

Now a little bird tells techgoss that the 1500 Seater Vodafone process at Intelenet may be moved from Mumbai to Aurangabad which is a smaller town in Maharashtra.  This would mean rehiring over 2400 employees (shifts) as an Agent in Mumbai earning Rs. 7000/month will not shift to Aurangabad. Transport to and from work is an additional perk.  Hiring of 2400 new Agents could cost as much as Rs. 200- 500 per employee.

New Team Leaders to be hired would cost the company one months pay or 8.33 percent of annual CTC.  This is the standard rate of most head hunters recruiting for any BPO.

Investment in technology (telecom switching equipment, wiring, LAN, cabling etc) will have to be redone. New Servers have to be purchased. A physical transition cannot be done using the existing equipment. Batches of 30 agents/workstations have to be moved as E1 lines coming in from the client have to be moved.
