Blog drops mention of CEO
By Shalini Singh

On Feb 23, 2010, I had reported on how the ex-girl friend of Google’s CEO had shut down her blog after a legal warning.

Kate Bohner, who had dated Google CEO Eric Schmidt, had written in the blog: “I haven't thought about Dr. Strangelove in such a long time-I try to sweep all of that data completely under the Persian carpet. That's a lie. I think about him every so often in these fleeting cinematic flashes...I have completely stopped sleeping. My friend Jason is so worried about it that he confiscates my Blackberry... I've been sleeping with my Blackberry just in case Strangelove might send an e-mail. If I was really smart I ditch the Blackberry for the iPhone he gave me – the prototype version. But I have yet to arrive. Stephen Jobs is not St. Stephen. He's just a stoned Jesuit priest lost in his garden. Strangelove still has his stranglehold on me and nothing is new under the sun. “

When they were dating, the Google CEO was on Apple’s Board of Directors and had access to such prototype iPhones. He also has a Doctorate.

Gawker has just published an update.  Kate Bohner has revived her blog but cut out all mention of Dr. Strangelove, prototype iPhone and Apple founder Steve Jobs.  Her website now also has a prominent disclaimer that “All characters appearing in this work are fictitious”.

Google CEO stops blog
By Shalini Singh

Thanks god for the fierce independence of blog groups like Gawker.  Gawker’s Valleywag has published a story about Google CEO Eric Schmidt and his ex girl friend Kate Bohner which most mainstream media would dare not touch.

What is so important about the personal life of a billionaire and powerful tech CEO that merits public scrutiny?  The fact that his lawyers forced the ex girl friend to shutter her blog even as Eric defends Google for storing and publishing personal information about ordinary people.

Kate Bohner used to work for CNBC and Forbes till her life spiraled out of control.  To her credit, she has taken a number of positive steps to control her substance abuse and get back to a normal life.  Part of the therapy involved Kate writing an online blog named Recoverygirl007. Kate chose Google’s Blogger to host her online diaries.

Gawker published extracts from Kate’s blog where she referred to ex boyfriend Eric Schmidt as Dr. Strangelove and wrote about how he gave her an iPhone prototype. Eric was on the Apple Board of Directors and so had access to such top secret prototypes.

I think about him every so often in these fleeting cinematic flashes...I have completely stopped sleeping. My friend Jason is so worried about it that he confiscates my Blackberry... Today, Google no longer hosts Kate’s blog. It has disappeared after a legal letter was sent to Kate.
