CMC: Frustrated Freshers resign By Amitav Sethuram
CMC (a TCS subsidiary) is an IT firm possessing some good government projects in India. At present, it is a TATA Enterprise but initially it was a PSU which was taken over by TATA around 7 to 8 years ago. Though they have got some good government projects but still their attrition rate is even higher than that of TCS. I will enumerate with certain facts to prove my point.
During recession, CMC never hired any fresher for their company. In other words, I can say that they never hired any fresher for years 2008 and 2009. On June 14, 2010, a placement drive was conducted by CMC at GIET, Gurgaon, where the company recruited around 13 students who had their joining date on August 5, 2010. Finally, when they joined CMC, they rightly expected in their mind that they will be trained for their respective projects and the technology on which they are supposed to work. TCS is India’s No. 1 local tech company, and so the young techies were expecting high standards, systems and Processes at CMC as well. But by the end of February, 2011 or by the starting of March, 2011, 10 of them resigned (or will be resigning in the first week of March).
The reason behind this was obvious. They were useless in the firm and the rate of their learning was very slow because no training was given to them and they were directly thrown onto their projects. Secondly, the compensation offered to these candidates was also low as compared to other IT firms. So, finally many of them switched from CMC to other firms like CTS, Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and others.
Moreover, it was observed that most of the employees (who have been working there for 3 to 4 years) were not satisfied with their salary compensation. Few of the most talented people (whom I know personally) at CMC was consistently searching for better opportunities and they always used to criticize the work flow and the management here. From the very first day here, these experienced people at CMC always encouraged fresh techies to leave this company and opt for better options.
As an approximate figure I can state that every month 1 employee was leaving (excluding freshers). This has been continuing here for a long period. Let us see that how long this attitude will work for CMC and TCS.
