Gandhi daughter shops at tech hub By Rahul Kumar
Gurgaon is the most important tech hub in North India. Every major tech company including Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Infosys and others have offices in Gurgaon. India’s leading BPO Genpact has its HQ there. Gurgaon is not only frequented by the corporate honchos from India and abroad but also by the Bollywood stars and big wigs from political families.
Most of these VIPs and VVIPs discreetly sneak into the Gurgaon malls and shopping centres under heavy security cover. Once their shopping and browsing is over, they quietly leave to avoid public glare. In one such incident recently, Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka and her husband Robert Vadra, escorted by plain-clothed body guards, reached the mall-mile MG Road for buying a refrigerator. Local techies and Agents were pleasantly surprised while crossing paths with the power couple on a shopping trip. After all, as members of the most powerful family in India, one phone call is enough to ensure the best refrigerators are delivered home.
The popular couple reached MGF Plaza mall and entered straight into a White Goods showroom Dawar’s Open World. Clad in a black long skirt and top, the elegant Priyanka Vadra surprised the staffers of the showroom that Saturday afternoon. The couple remained at the showroom for about eight minutes and enquired about a whole range of refrigerators but went back without purchasing one. The couple reached at 12.28 afternoon and left at 12.36 IST. (Techgoss had sourced CCTV footage of the shopping trip)
Priyanka and Robert enquired about 520 liter capacity refrigerators and the staff showed the couple Whirlpool and White Westinghouse refrigerators. While leaving the showroom, Priyanka left the contact numbers of perhaps one of her staffers for further communications. However, during the eight-minute stay, the shopping mall was fortified and the shoppers were denied entry. Except for women and children, no one was allowed entry into the showroom while the couple looked at refrigerators. (7/23/2009) |
