Bill Gates writes for Gadget blog By Ria Sharma
Gadget and technology blog Gizmodo is well known for its integrity and in your face honesty. Started in 2002, it gets more than 100 million page views a month. As you can imagine, a Gizmodo review often results in a product selling better or not. As a thought leader, its views are echoed by other tech websites and blogs. Bill Gates has just written for Gizmodo.
Gizmodo is part of Gawker media which is widely regarded as the most powerful blog group in USA.
Gawker is the freest and most irreverent media group in USA. Their journalists write it as they see it. There are no sacred cows. Gawker has no personal equation with any business house. This has ensured a loyal readership which trusts them.
How irreverent is Gawker?
Gawker blog Valleywag, in Jan, 2009, wrote that Bill Gates was squarely responsible for the 5000 people laid off by Microsoft.
Gawker blog Gizmodo, in Feb, 2009, ran a Photoshop Contest, asking it readers to create images depicting Bill Gates unleashing things other than mosquitoes on people. This Gizmodo article said: ‘Oh Bill Gates, you so crazy!’. One of the many such doctored photos poking fun of Bill Gates was of him lying semi-clad on a bed (Shown at top of article).
And there are many such examples.
But the Microsoft founder and billionaire philanthropist reads Gawker and was quite impressed by series of articles by Gizmodo.
So impressed, that Bill Gates has actually written an article for Gizmodo titled ‘Bill Gates: My 1979 Memories’.
Gizmodo introduced their multi billionaire blogger irreverently as : “Our Gizmodo '79 celebration may have ended last week, but there's room for a final post, written by famed retiree and mosquito wrangler Bill Gates. It's no joke: Gates read the series then sent this in”.
How much does Gizmodo pay its freelance writers? Anything from $20 to $100. Somehow, I feel that money will not be discussed between Bill Gates and Gizmodo. (7/25/2009) |
