Techie phones Gurgaon police chief at 4 am By Rahul Kumar
Gurgaon is one of the most important tech hubs in India. The IT software Sector in this ‘Millennium City’ earns revenue of $4 billion a year. Every major IT/BPO company in India has a presence here. Cashed up youngsters have spawned a vibrant entertainment industry. A popular local discotheque has been shut after an IT employee was thrashed by bouncers.
Police ordered the closure of a discotheque in Sahara Mall in Gurgaon where the bouncers thrashed a software engineer at about 3.00 am on Saturday. The deadline for serving liquor in pubs and bars in Gurgaon is 12.00 midnight. It can be extended to 2.00 am with special permission. Since the discotheque Vibrant where the incident happened continued to serve liquor even after 2.00 am and caused a public nuisance, the DLF City police have put their own lock on the entry doors of Vibrant on the orders of police commissioner.
The victim, 27-year old Sandip Chaudhary, a resident of New Delhi had come to the discotheque Vibrant on the third floor of the mall at MG Road along with two more friends. It was he who had woken up and called up the police chief, the Gurgaon Police commissioner at about 4.00 am on his mobile phone and complained that the DLF City police officials were not acting on his complaint. Sandip did not divulge the name of the IT Company he worked with, nor did the police officials mention his company name in the FIR against the bouncers on his request.
The Vibrant management claimed that the trouble started when they switched the lights off at the discotheque and asked all the guests to leave the place. Everyone left, except for Sandip and two of his friends who insisted on being served more liquor which was refused. At this, Sandip entered into an altercation with the club staff forcing the bouncers to intervene. As Sandip started to exchange heated comments with the bouncers in a drunken state, the bouncers started to thrash him. Sandip called the police officials from the DLF police stations who, he claimed, did not assist him and favoured the Vibrant staff.
It was at about 4.00 am that the frustrated Sandip called up the police commissioner SS Deswal on his cell number 9999981800 and woke him up from his sound sleep. Deswal said that he was shocked to known that the people in Gurgaon continue to drink and pubs/bars continue to serve liquor in violation of the tax & excise regulations with scant regard for the law and order situation. He immediately ordered his police team to shut down Vibrant and hang a new lock and send the key to him only. (8/10/2009) |
