Peace Index for tech hubs
By Ria Sharma

Website Vision of Humanity focuses on the major issues facing humanity like climate change, ever decreasing biodiversity, full use of the fresh water on the planet and underpinning all these – overpopulation.

Vision of Humanity collates data from a number of sources and publishes what it calls the ‘Global Peace Index’.  Its 2010 Global Peace Index ranking of 149 countries shows how peaceful each country is. New Zealand, Iceland and Japan are the most peaceful countries. Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq are the least peaceful.

And is there any relationship between the peace of a country and its success as an outsourcing hub? Apparently not!

The Key Asia-Pacific IT-ITES hubs are India, China, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Australia.  How do they rank on the Global Peace Index?

The biggest IT-ITES outsourcing centre in the world India is ranked 128 among 149 countries.  China is ranked 80.  Philippines is 130.  Malaysia is 22. Australia is 19.  Vietnam is 38.  Indonesia is 67. Sri Lanka is 133.

IT-BPO hub Slovenia ranks 11.  Czech Republic follows at 12.  Chile is 28 and Poland is 29.  Mexico is 107.  Turkey is 126. Brazil is 83.

US is the largest outsourcing client for hubs like India and Philippines. How does it fare? US ranks 85 on this Peace Index.
