Who chose top 10 sites? By Techgirl
Most internet SEO gurus will tell you that if your site has pictures of scantily clad women and articles like ’10 Top CEO’s’ or ‘Top 10 Actresses’; there will be a jump in visitors. What most media houses will not tell you is that most of them need ‘filler’ articles because there is not enough news to publish on some days. Such filler articles fill up the empty spaces in newspapers and websites.
North India based newspaper ‘The Pioneer’ is more than 135 years old. It has seen better days and now faces intense competition from the plethora of old and new media in India. The Pioneer’s Editor is Chandan Mitra who is one of the key spokespersons for the BJP and is frequently a guest on CNN-IBN, Times, NDTV and other national media.
The Pioneer has published a filler article about the ‘Top 10 websites that have changed the way we live’. Bizarrely, the list excludes popular sites like Google, Wikipedia, Twitter and even Naukri. The Pioneer list is
“ Games: Zapak.com
Entertainment (music and films): YouTube.com
Travel: Makemytrip.com
Matrimony: Bharatmatrimony.com
Social Networking: Facebook.com
Fashion: Style.com
Food and beverage: Bawarchi.com
Arts: Saffronart.com
Shopping: Rediffshop.com
Pets: Dogspot.in “
And the best part? Before you could scratch your tresses working out the logic of this list, Bharatmatrimony issued a press release saying it was one of the top 10 websites that changed the way we live. And before you accuse me of being a bitch, I have a cat but have never heard of pet’s website Dogspot. Was this newspaper working out a list of advertisers and mixed it up with the list of websites that changed our world?
