Donate or cartoon stops
By Techgirl

Not a week goes by without one of my girlfriends ringing me to discuss how guilty she feels about some issue. Her boyfriend does not love her,  it’s her fault.  Her Boyfriend loves her too much, it’s her fault.  Her boyfriend was ogling Deepika,  it’s her fault. You get the idea!  My male colleagues never have such guilt filled angst ridden discussions.  My mother seems have done an advanced Phd on feeling guilty and making every else introspect.  Introspect is her code for some family member doing something she disapproved of.  And let’s not even start about how some of my friends use the time tested guilt technique to control the men in their lives.

Now an NGO Nanhi Kali has started a unique internet campaign to raise funds to educate poverty stricken girls in India.  The campaign is in the form for a brilliant cartoon series depicting a young Indian girl Tarla who wants to study, but her family does not have the cash to fulfill her dreams of an education.

The catch?  If people stop donating, the online cartoon series ‘A Girl Story’ will stop

The target is $11,000 and people have donated about $4,000 so far.  There are 11 cartoons and a donation of $1000 is needed to unlock and bring alive each chapter of the cartoon series.  If you don’t donate, the online cartoon series stops the cute show.

On their website, it is described as a donation-based film series.  But I feel that it more a guilt based film series.  Good guilt for a good cause.  And the cartoon itself is so sweetly done.

The Girl Story website describes itself as ‘a unique donation-based film that brings to life the experience of many underprivileged girls in India. This particular story is told through the eyes of Tarla, a young girl who simply wants to go to school and receive an education. Our project's goals are to raise awareness about the challenges that girls like Tarla face, and to drive donations for the nonprofit group Project Nanhi Kali. Project Nanhi Kali (little bud) was founded in 1996 by K C Mahindra Education Trust to provide 10 years of primary education to underprivileged girls in India.’

What a great idea!  Can’t think of a better way to take my revenge on mom for making me feel guilty sometimes than by showing her this wonderful cartoon series and making her donate a large sum to Tarla.  And a little donation from mom for Techgirl would also be appreciated.  After all,  Techgoss payments of Rs. 1000 an article does not buy me much in Mumbai.
