Octopus Paul tech link? By Techgirl
If you were following the Football World Cup in South Africa, or if you have watched TV on read a newspaper in the last 10 days, you would have seen Paul the Octopus correctly predicting all of Germany’s games. And last night, his forecast about Spain winning the tournament came true.
Housed in an aquarium in Germany, Paul the Octopus is given a choice of two boxes of food each sporting the flags of the rival football teams. Obviously, there is more than food on his mind because his predictions have been more accurate than any sports journalist and football expert.
Every TV channel and newspaper in India has flooded us with stories of the cute Paul the Octopus. Every aspect of his past and life in the German Aquarium has been dissection (so to speak).
But did you know that Paul may have a tech connection? Paul the Octopus’s full name is actually Paul Allen.
While Bill Gates is the public face of Microsoft, he actually co-founded it with Paul Allen. Naturally, Paul Allen is also a very wealthy man with his personal worth is excess of $13 Billion. Time magazine has twice listed him as being among the 100 Most Influential People in the World.
One of America’s top 10 technology blogs Techflash is reporting the link
“ This is either a great joke a very strange coincidence.
As many soccer fans and TV news viewers know, there's an "oracle octopus" named Paul in Germany who has been winning acclaim for his ability to predict World Cup games. Well, it turns out that his full name is Paul Allen. That, of course, is also the name of Microsoft's co-founder -- who happens to own a yacht named "Octopus." “
Even though Paul had named his yacht Octopus, I somehow feel that the aquarium housing the Octopus would not be using Microsoft software in any form. Otherwise, we may have seen system reboots just the Octopus was getting ready to predict the next winner. And the Aquarium would be charging the media ‘license fee’ to use its predictions.
In life there is some sort of balance. Good and bad. One team wins in cricket and another loses. Even as Paul Allen the Octopus has a great record with sporting teams, Microsoft’s Paul Allen has not had much luck with the sporting teams that he purchased.
