Techie job ad: Put birth time in resume
By Maitreyi Menon

Even as India mastered the software of soulless computer systems, it remains a deeply spiritual place. For Indians hooked to horoscopes, Bejan Daruwalla and his GaneshaSpeaks website are familiar names ‘consistently delivering an accurate, reliable and trustworthy service’ in the field of astrology, career advice, marriage, business and personal matters.

Popular site Ganeshaspeaks.com is on the threshold of expansion, they ‘envisage to go global’ and have already started the process of providing services in Europe and America while widening base in the Indian market by providing their services in several Indian languages. So, logically the next step would be recruiting the right people to do the jobs. And their site advertises a whole set of jobs, ranging from techie vacancies to marketing posts, customer care, content writers and even astrologers.

There are some vacancies for software development and the posts are for senior managers, assistant managers and techie trainees. The location is Ganeshaspeaks, Ahmedabad. Ok, ask me what’s new?

What new is that software guys will be evaluated on their education, work experience, attitude, references as well as Time of Birth.  The advertisement reads

“REMUNERATION WOULD BEST IN THE INDUSTRY. NO BAR FOR THE DESERVING CANDIDATE BASED ON HIS ABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE.

If you wish to prove your abilities on a global stage, send your updated resumes along with following details:-

1)Date of birth
2)Place of birth
3)Time of birth
4)Present CTC
5)Expected CTC”

I can see your eyes pop out now…

’Time of birth’? Yeah, what did you expect when you are applying to an astrology website? The place and timing are important. Ok, if you are still interested email your CV to careers@ganeshaspeaks.com.

I suspect some job applicants may cheat by paying a small fee to ask Ganeshaspeaks if their time of birth is suitable for a job with Ganeshaspeaks.  Now, that is a reference which would be impressive during the interview.
