Internet on TCS suicide
By Techgirl

Tragically, on Aug 20, 2010, a 22 year old techie and TCS employee took his life by jumping off the ITPL Building in Whitefield, Bangalore.  Why Sudarshan Guttedar jumped off the eleventh floor at around 5 pm will only be known after a thorough investigation.  There are always many factors in play when a young man in the prime of his life decides to end it all.

National newspaper DNA reported: “A colleague of Sudarshan, who did not want to be named, told DNA that he was planning to quit his job. He had given his resignation and was waiting to be relieved from the company. “But the company did not want to relieve him. It wanted to retain him. There was a verbal spat between some officials at TCS and Sudarshan,” the colleague said. “

As TCS is India’s No. 1 Technology Company, this news was reported by most national newspapers and TV Stations.

But if you want to see the growing power and influence of new media in India, go to Google and search for ‘TCS suicide Bangalore’.  An India tech blog Dexternights report on the suicide is ranked at the top of Google search results - much higher that India’s leading newspapers and news websites. Dexternights was ranked higher than the Times of India, India Today, DNA, Deccan Herald and all the TV stations websites.

Dexternights has many first hand accounts from people who worked in the same premises.  One of which read: “Today, one of the TCS associates named Sudarshan committed suicide by jumping from the 11th floor. He died on the spot. I worked at the same place and I know what was going on there. Luckily, last month I got a release from the project. I came to know from the project associates that Sudarshan was reprimanded and threatened by the project managers very badly just few minutes back when he did this gruesome act.”

Even as many in the old media are reporting this as a suicide, new media is publishing first hand reports which suggest there could be more than meets the eye.
