Phone in saree pallu
By Techgirl

Like many girls in Mumbai, I find sarees are not practical when one has to move to report from the field.  But when one has to wear them, it is a juggling exercise with the purse, notebook and Blackberry.  Thankfully, we women can multi task well.

But if a British invention becomes popular, we will see phones being built into sarees’s pallu.  Or if you prefer salwar kameez than your dupatta may double up as your phone handset.  Just ensure your saree pallu has good reception and put your hand to your ear and talk to your girlfriends.

London-based CuteCircuit describes itself as a fashion company that designs wearable technology. CuteCircuit products are innovative intelligent clothing that integrate new functionalities into fashion through the use of smart textiles and micro electronics. CuteCircuit is the first company to merge wearable and telecommunication technology to create emotionally rich experiences for users in the fashion, sport and communication industries. CuteCircuit has been written about by many international media including Time, CNN, Elle and Wired.

CuteCircuit has just released its M-Dress which is an elegant silk jersey dress that is also a functional soft electronics mobile phone. The M-Dress accepts a standard SIM card and allows the wearer to receive and make calls without carrying a cellular phone in their pocket or purse.

According to CuteCircuit, when the dress rings, the simple gesture of bringing your hand to the ear will allow the sensor to open the call and when done talking the gesture of releasing the hand downwards will close the call.

Sometime in the future, I will ring my girlfriend in Bandra and ask her what she would be wearing to the wedding.  Her choice will range from a simple cotton Nokia saree to a rich Raigarh silk Blackberry.

Bollywood songs could also be changed a bit

Choli Ke Peechhe Kya Hai, Choli Ke Peechhe
Chunari Ke Neeche Kya Hai, Chunari Ke Neeche
Ho, Choli Mein Nokia Hai Meraa, Chunari Mein Nokia Hai Mera
