600000 Desi Pirates?
By Techgirl

Swedish website ‘Pirate Bay’ is used by tens of millions of people to search and track down film and music videos.  As the most popular BitTorrent tracker site in the world, Pirate Bay earns substantial advertising revenue from companies.

While there is absolutely no doubt that many of the music / video files sourced from searches at Pirate Bay infringe copyright,  the website itself has developed a cult following.  There are many fans of Pirate Bay who genuinely believe that Big music, movie and software companies sometimes do all they can to exploit ordinary consumers.

Torrentfreak broke the news that The Pirate Bay topped 5 million registered users in the first week of April, 2011.  By the way, registration is optional and only required if you have to upload, get porn or leave comments.

Where does Pirate Bay get most of its Traffic?  Alexa reports show that 20 percent of Pirate Bay visitors are from USA, followed by 12.4 percent from India.  UK, with 5.6 percent of all visitors, is in third place.

5 Million Registered users of which 12.4 percent are from India.  That makes it a minimum of 600,000 Indians using Pirate Bay.  Of what I know of our internet behavior, few Indians would bother to register.
