FB: Many more Desi men
By Techgirl

In India, except for emancipated states like Kerala, the sex ratio is skewed particularly in North India.  Many couples chose male children over female at every level – right from conception to equality at school, home and work.  It will take many decades before this social sickness can be cured.

Even in Shaadi websites, we women are outnumbered by men (probably not a bad thing in some ways).  One of my female colleagues put up her profile on a shaadi site and she got 200 responses in 48 hours – most of which were fake.  Note to all girls reading this article – Never wear anything remotely attractive in photos put in shaadi sites.  Some Indian men don’t know how to behave on the streets and the behaviour gets worse in the anonymous world of the internet.

Regular readers of Techgoss are well aware that a large number of our articles are crowd sourced.  People send in tips, story ideas and even articles. Many of our contributors have full times jobs in IT-ITES, and so prefer using a pseudonym.  A Tipster, who has sent in her name but prefers it not be published, wrote in

Socialbakers  is one of the biggest Facebook statistics portals in the world, covering a wide range of Facebook statistics. Socialbakers has all kinds of statistics about Facebook.  The top 5 Facebook countries are USA, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Turkey and India.

At Socialbakers, you can zoom in to see all manner of demographics about Facebook users in each country.  In the USA, 55 percent of Facebook users are female and 45 percent male. In Islamic Indonesia, 60 percent of Facebook users are male and 40 percent are female

And India?  71 percent are male and only 29 percent are female.

Why are there so many more men than women in Facebook India?  Same reason as Shaadi websites or something else?
