Blogger News blocked? By Pulkit Sharma
In July, 2010, Techgoss had reported on the bizarre case where Indian police, without seeking an order from an American Court, wrote to US-based Blogger News Network demanding that it hand over the IP address and other details to Indian law enforcement authorities. Now surprisingly, Robert Hayes, who started Blogger News Network, politely asked the Indian police to speak to an American Judge / Court if they felt anyone was breaking the law. The Indian police dropped their request and did not petition an American Court.
Cyber law expert Na.Vijayashankar, also known as Naavi in Cyberspace, is one of the most respected names in the Indian tech world. As Chairman of the Digital Society Foundation and as a Director of Cyber Law College, one of Naavi’s life mottos is “Let’s build a responsible Cyber society”.
Naavi’s views are highly regarded and he is regularly quoted by Indian media. Most recently, the Bangalore Cyber Security Summit held in Mid-March and which was addressed by Telecom and Technology guru Sam Pitroda, had invited Naavi to share his vast expertise at the conference.
On May 7, 2011, Naavi had written an eloquent open letter on Blogger News Network addressed to Governor, RBI and Chairman, PNB, querying Terms of Service wherein a PNB customer in Chennai would have to travel to Delhi to settle any legal dispute with the bank. Apparently, all legal differences with PNB bank can only be settled in Delhi and not in the local State judiciary.
For some reasons, no one could read Naavi’s article in Blogger News Network for the last 24 hours because the entire blog has been blocked from India. But if you go via a Proxy Server you can read it. Google ‘proxy server’, find one you are comfortable with and then to read the article type in the following URL bloggernews.net/126521 (5/9/2011) |
