Record film sharing case By Techgirl
Like many women, I dislike the blood and gore in war movies. But, I made it a point to see The Hurt Locker because it was directed by Ms Kathryn Bigelow who was once married to James Cameron. The Hurt Locker, which won Kathryn BAFTA and Academy awards, is a beautiful movie. Highly recommended.
Torrentfreak is reporting how the producers of The Hurt Locker have sued 24,583 alleged BitTorrent users for illegally downloading their movie. This turns the Hurt Locker case into the largest BitTorrent lawsuit in history, breaking the two week old record set by The Expendables case earlier this month. The report has few other interesting details of how this legal action can be even more profitable than the receipts from the box office
“ The math shows that this scheme could turn out to be extremely profitable for the parties involved. If ‘only’ 10,000 of the alleged infringers eventually pay a $2,000 settlement this would bring in $20 million. In comparison, that’s more than the $17 million The Hurt Locker grossed at the U.S. box office. “
