Y2K Bug Hotel in India By Techgirl
Over the years, Techgoss has published a number of exclusive human interest photos with some IT, BPO, KPO and Telecom links to the images. These include:
-In July, 2010, during our first Photo Competition, Techgoss had published exclusive photos of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg attired in Indian clothes and dancing at a wedding in India. This photo was republished by a number of popular blogs including Gawker, Pluggdin and others.
-Sometime back, a Tipster sent in photos of the marriage ceremony for Hotmail founder Sabeer Bhatia.
-In Feb, 2011, as part of our last photo competition, our exclusive photo of the Facebook shop in Mumbai went viral
And there were many more including one of Infosys branded samosas being sold in Pune. Techgoss had also published a photo of Nokia branded underwear being sold in India. Every major western brand and Trademark has been used (misused?) without getting official permission.
Many juniors in Indian IT may not be fully aware, but their seniors made big bucks fixing the so called ‘Y2K’ bug a decade ago. Much of the work to fix the two digits instead of four in the year fields of computer programs was outsourced to India between 1997 to 2000. And we billed Americans and Europeans tens of millions of dollars to fix a software bug which turned out to be a smaller problem that what everyone feared. But boy, did we make some money scaring the sh** out of overseas clients who then threw money to fix this scary ‘Y2K bug’.
Techgoss reader and techie Tech Shetty snapped a photo of an existing Y2K Restaurant in Punjagutta area of Hyderabad (Located opposite the Hyderabad Central Mall and beside the police station), that even in 2011 reminds us of the Y2K Bug and how desi developers feasted on it. And even though the restaurant does not own chicken .com, it is displayed on its Board as well. Who is goes to sue this eatery in Hyderabad?
Rs. 1000 will be sent to Tech Shetty for sending in the photo.
Do you have such human interest photos as well? For really exclusive photos we will pay you Rs. 5000, for most you will get a minimum of Rs. 1000. Anonymity guaranteed if you prefer your name is not used with the photo.
