Barclays: Cheaper customers diverted to India By Shalini Singh
British financial giant Barclays has had a very good year. Despite the recession, it made a profit of £5.3 billion. Barclays income has grown by 34 percent and its liquidity pool has trebled to £127 billion. To its credit, Barclays never accepted a penny from the British Govt to tide it over the global recession.
The bankers at Barclays are receiving bonuses worth 2 Billion dollars this year.
Barclays, like many of its counterparts, has call centres in India. Daily Mail is reporting on the ‘Apartheid’ call system which filters out poor Barclays clients.
“ Barclays customers with low credit approvals will be put through to Indian call centres. Thousands of struggling bank customers will be connected to Indian call centres while more affluent account holders will get one in Britain.
A new banking phone system will identify those with low credit approvals and put them through to India. Those who have considerable savings or a credit limit that allows them to borrow around £500 from the bank or buy its products will be connected to a British operator. “
As you can imagine, many Britishers are not amused. More than 260 have left comments at the end of the Daily Mail article. Not surprisingly, there are many Britishers who actually prefer to speak to Indian Agents even though it is very obvious that they are using pseudonyms like ‘Gary’ or ‘Sarah’.
