BPO: Cockroach in food
By Bala Shah

Teleperformance (TP) is one of the biggest BPO’s in the world.  It has about 100,000 employees and revenue of 2058 mill pounds last year. Established in 1978, its core business spans the full spectrum of CRM/BPO contact center solutions. Teleperformance has a large global footprint in the industry with 276 contact centers, presence in 51 countries, servicing over 75 markets.

Teleperformance India supports a number of clients including Adobe, SanDisk, Alliance One, Telus and Microsoft.

Perhaps, one of the best managed and happy workplace at Teleperformance is its Adobe Support Process at Gurgaon. Its highly skilled workers produce great results every month, and in turn, the performers get great monthly incentives.

One of the perks of every TP employee is one meal a day- be it breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Lately, many employees and their stomachs have been grumbling about the quality (or lack thereof) of the meals served.  And complaints are being ignored faster than you can say Pizza Hut.

About two months back, a Cockroach was found in a Cauliflower vegetable dish. Employees snapped a photo of the Cockroach in Cauliflower dish and emailed the picture to the Employee Care Team as well as the Senior HR Manager.  But no action was taken against the Food Vendor ‘Tulips’ which is continuing to serve the same quality of food.

The Food Committee of Teleperformance is headed by Director Operations, Adobe, and seems to have no appetite for any action to improve the quality of food.  The Food Vendor In charge was overheard saying that the budget allotted for food is too less. Most employees just say: "We don't expect Non Veg food, but at least we should be able to expect clean and hygienic food free from  insects.” Food, which is served at around 8.30 PM in the evening,  is kept open till 4.00 AM and then the same vegetables are modified in such a way that they can be served as Breakfast. e.g "Wet Kale Chane" which are cooked at 6.00 PM and served at 8.30 PM as one of the vegetables in dinner are dried and served as "Dry Kale Chane" in breakfast at around 5.00AM till 10.00AM.

Most Process Mangers, except few from the Adobe Process, eat as less as possible from the official canteen.
