Cyberloafing helps work By Techgirl
Being a journalist, I spend hours every day surfing the net under the pretext of doing ‘research’. No website is blocked in most media organizations and FB is frequently updated during work hours.
But do you feel guilty surfing FB and other sites at work? WSJ has a report on how browsing the Internet at work actually ‘improves your performance’.
“ According to a new study, Web browsing can actually refresh tired workers and enhance their productivity, compared to other activities such as making personal calls, texts or emails, let alone working straight through with no rest at all.
The study, "Impact of Cyberloafing on Psychological Engagement," by Don J.Q. Chen and Vivien K.G Lim of the National University of Singapore, was presented last week in San Antonio, Texas, at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management, an association of management scholars. “
This research originated from Singapore which has strict rules and regulations for everything. Perhaps the Singapore Government will now make it mandatory for its employees to surf the net while at work!
