Flower Decking contest By Suneetha
Onam, the harvest festival of God’s Own Country is a week ahead, but tight schedules do not deter the techies of Trivandrum from celebrating with pomp and colour in true tradition. McFadyen Solutions grabbed the first prize of Rs.10000 in the traditional flower decking competition held at Technopark premises.
Ajay Baburaj, Gireesh Babu, Riji, Vincy, Aromal and Vineeth M Thaithara were the McFadyen team that created the “Pookkalam” as the flower decking is traditionally known. Ariva Med Data Infotech Pvt. Ltd came second and bagged a purse of Rs.7500 while Speridian Technologies Pvt Ltd came third and won Rs.5000. There was enthusiastic participation from the companies and all the participants were given a consolation purse of Rs.1000. Later on, there was the traditional Onam feast or Onasadya at the Techno Club. Many companies are holding Onam feasts on separate days as well. Many of the techies, even non-Keralites, came in the traditional off-white garb with gold jerry border special to Kerala.
On the theme of the winning flower design, Gireesh Babu of McFadyen explains their concept. “If we are exploring the dark / bad / weakness of anything / anyone we will be also tending to be dark / bad / weak. This is because weakness is contagious. So better we focus our eyes to the brighter side of life. We explained to the judges that we have so many eyes in the decoration. The message was to look at the fair / lighter side (the center of the decoration) and stay away from the dark side (outer areas) of it. You may see the eyeballs are more towards to the brighter side of it!!”
Quite positive and optimistic that, McFadyen! (9/2/2011) |
