Google: Rediff is Top Site in India By Bala Shah
Tech giant Google dominates the search market in India and most of the world. Google crawlers map everything on the net. Apart from popular applications like Gmail, it also has sophisticated tools to monitor the traffic to any website. Google has published its Ad Planner Top 1000 Sites in the world. The main criterion being how many unique visitors (users) each site gets.
For reasons best known to it, Google has excluded some of its own websites from this Top 1000 list. Adult sites were not considered while working out this list.
According to Google, Facebook is the most visited website in the world. It is followed by Yahoo, Live.com, Wikipedia, MSN and Microsoft.
In case you thought Facebook had taken over the world, Orkut is No. 45 on the list.
What about India? According to the Google Top 1000 list, 234 ranked Mumbai headquartered Rediff.com gets 12 million unique visitors and is the most visited Indian site. Rediff provides a platform for Indians worldwide to access news, information, communication, entertainment and shopping services.
The popular Indiatimes website is ranked 389 on the Google list. It gets 8.9 million unique visitors.
Ranked 501 on the Google list is In.com which is owned by Web18. Web18 also owns Moneycontrol, IBNLIVE, Cricketnext and other popular sites.
Check out the list to see how your favourite site ranks! I must admit that some of these Google rankings have taken me by surprise.
