India Water Hackathon By Suneetha
The Water Hackathon, a two-day marathon software coding event, brings together software developers, designers and water experts to “hack” real-world water problems. The World Bank has partnered with the Indian Institute of Human Settlements and India Water Portal to organise this in Bangalore for the South Asia region.
The event, scheduled to be held at Bangalore on October 21-23, 2011, aims to seed a new community that will identify critical global challenges and project-specific problems in order to develop software to respond to them. There are 5 other locations across the globe. The email sent out by the India Water Portal says this about their call for ideas.
“ We are seeking ideas for developing software applications for mobile phones that will be useful for the water community and/or for the general public. More specifically:
- Past examples (successful or unsuccessful) of mobile-phone applications related to water - Ideas for mobile applications that might be useful for the water community or specific target groups like farmers, plumbers, fishermen, researchers, community workers, government employees, etc. - Ideas for mobile applications for the general public
When writing up your ideas, please describe the problem in full and include a description of how the solution would work ideally. Please include any data or general information that would be needed to create this solution. Describe the intended audience and what mobile device it should work on. For example, analog phone, SMS, smart phone, etc. “
