Sparsh: TATA Process promotions
By Pulkit Sharma

BPO Sparsh is a subsidiary of Intelenet Global Services and operates in the Indian market.  Sparsh has 16,000 employees in 20 BPOs across 9 locations in India.  In 2008, Sparsh was ranked No. 1 in the Dataquest Domestic call centre survey.  As exclusively reported by Techgoss, Sparsh has lost a number of high profile processes recently, including Indian telecom major Aircel.

On April 9, 2010, Techgoss had exclusively reported on how Aircel was switching off Sparsh.

Sparsh BPO has filed a signed and certified notification with the BSE that gives a snapshot of its turbulent recent few years.  Sparsh told the stock exchange that its annual loss for the year 2009-2010 is Rupees 5.98 Crores (Audited).  And the accumulated losses till date as per its balance sheet are a whopping Rs. 17.88 crores.  The general reserve or accumulated profits had been wiped out years ago due to the accumulation of the losses.

Despite the losses, Sparsh, in the first week of June, 2010, gave promotions and salary hikes to key employees of the TATA AIG General Insurance outbound process.  But unlike their counterparts in other BPO’s, some of the salary rises were a bit sparse.

A tipster rang Techgoss to say a hard working Senior Assistant Manager who was made an Operations Manager at the TATA AIG General Insurance process was given a hike of Rs. 4000 over and above his previous monthly salary of Rs. 28,000 – Rs. 29,000. Reportedly, the previous Ops Manager with a designation of Senior Operations Manager was on Rs. 65,000 a month.  It is not uncommon for Domestic BPO’s to pay Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 60,000 to their Operations Managers.

In the same process, a TAM (or Trainee Assistant Manager) sits between a Team Leader and below an Assistant Manager.  The newly promoted well regarded Assistant Manager received a salary hike of Rs, 1,000 per month to now make it Rs. 19,000 a month.

A popular Senior Assistant Manager has been moved up to Deputy Manager with a salary hike of Rs. 800 a month.

Two promising Agents were promoted to Team Leaders in this TATA AIG process and now get Rs 8000 a month just above the salaries of Senior Agents. A recently promoted Trainee Assistant Manager now gets an additional Rs. 1000 per month, raising his gross salary to Rs. 15,500.

Salary rises are always joyous occasion in every BPO.  And sometimes it is the thought that counts.  Congrats to everyone.  May such salary hikes permeate to other processes at Sparsh BPO.
