Social Vs Email spam By Ria Sharma
Impermium blog 'The Allied Front’ was set up to 'defend the social web against spam and abuse'. The latest edition of the Impermium Index reveals another round of scary statistics on social web spam trends. Impermium has worked out that one piece of social spam is 250 times more powerful than one piece of email spam.
According to Impermium
“ In one case, we found 47% of all submissions from a prominent social bookmarking site to be spam. In another study, we found that up to 40% of a site’s signup attempts are fraudulent. And for site owners, this is an expensive fight: for every 5,000,000 users on your site, be prepared to dedicate one full-time employee to effectively filter out spam accounts. Even the mighty Facebook has more than 30 full-timers dealing with their nearly 600,000 daily spam attacks.
36 % of all social spam is Apparel and sports. This is followed by SEO / web development. Porn and pills constitute only 16 percent of social spam “ (11/1/2011) |
