“ On Friday, just before America went into a holiday mood for the long weekend and people’s attention was on the holiday break Apple announced that it is recalling all its 5 years old iPod Nanos.
‘ Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006.
This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages. ‘
Apple is offering a replacement process for all its American and European customers who can logon to the Apple website and fill in their details and get a replacement couriered in 6 weeks. But this online replacement is denied to anyone who lives in Asia – whether you are in a rich country like Japan or a developing super power like India.
Why is it that there are one set of conditions for Americans and Europeans and another even for rich countries in Asia like Japan and Singapore? If you can get the replacement couriered to Belgium surely you can do it for Singapore as well “
