FB deletes Rushdie By Techgirl
So, you thought only you had problems dealing with the faceless Facebook staff! Iconic Indian British author Salman Rushdie has twittered how Facebook deleted his account on the weekend without even asking him to prove who he was. When Salman sent in a copy of his passport, Facebook refused to allow him to keep his account ‘Salman Rushdie’ because his real name is ‘Ahmed Salman Rushdie’. In fact, Facebook Support did not even get back to him on how the issue could be worked out.
As you can imagine, Salman Rushdie has never backed away from a fight. On Twitter, Salman has more than 100 thousand followers and he started tweeting about his travails with Facebook. It was just a question of time before international media picked up the story.
Within a few hours, Facebook reinstated his account and even apologized. Salman has now tweeted: “Facebook has apologized. All is sweetness and light’
