Students at Intel comp

Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania, USA is the destination of 11 of India’s next generation innovators who have been selected at the Initiative for Research & Innovation in Science (IRIS) 2011 to represent India at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This will be held next year at Pittsburgh from May 13-18.

These innovative projects were selected from a range of diverse disciplines including, Computer Science, Maths, Physics, Behavioral Science, Botany, Chemistry and Environmental Science. IRIS is a partnership between the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Intel and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) to foster research in students. A total of 103 projects were showcased at IRIS 2011, including a range of solutions in the fields of physical and life sciences, mathematics, engineering, and social sciences.  The scientific direction of IRIS was provided by various national labs and universities as TIFR, NPL, IISC and HBCSE, whose scientists also judged the competition and selected the winners.

The selected students are

Computer Science: Onkar Singh Gujral from La Martinere For Boys Kolkata, West Bengal

Maths: Shubham Goel from DPS R.K. Puram, New Delhi

Maths: Yashendra Shukla from Amity International School, Saket, New Delhi

Physics: Ravi Raja from Kendriya Vidyala, Delhi

Chemistry: Raghavendra Ramachanderan from St. Johns International Residential School, Chennai

Chemistry: Gargi Pare from St Mary's Convent Sr Secondary School, Ujjain, MP

Environmental Science: Sindura Saraswathi from Vivekananda English Medium High School, Mangalore, Karnataka

Behavioral Science: Nikhil Ravishankar & Apurva Joshi from St.Joseph’s High School, Mysore, Karnataka

Botany : Saral Baweja & Nishi Paliwal from Maharaja Agarsain Public School, Ashok Vihar, Phase 4, Delhi
