Indian 3 among Top 50 Apps in Asia By Suneetha
Accelerate 2010, held in Singapore in Sept, 2010, was a 2 day tech and mobile industry event which attracted some 2,000 international attendees. It endeavoured to pinpoint Asia’s most innovative web and mobile apps by discovering Asia's Top 50 Apps. Three from India are in the list. The top ten among them will win a number of prizes including a 3 month stay at Silicon Valley.
The Indian entrepreneurs who have made it to the list are ideaken (collaboration platform for innovation providers and seekers), Twt140 (site hosting 18 applications for Twitter beginners) and Voicetap (phone/voice-based knowledge network to get in touch with experts in various fields).
Techgoss asked them what their experience was like in Singapore, and how did it help them. Voicetap and ideaken came back with their responses.
Jayesh Badani, Founder and CEO of ideaken said, “Obviously it feels great that ideaken.com is listed as Asia’s top 50 applications. Singapore is a vibrant place for technology entrepreneurs and events like e27 and Accelerate are doing great job to make it even more exciting. Ideaken connects innovation seeker with innovation solvers, and we received quite a good response from innovators at Singapore and other Asian countries who participated. If you are an innovator, you must check out ideaken.com”
Mrigank Tripathi from Voicetap said, “The Singapore experience was a great boost! Our application helps businesses acquire more customers by using the operators’ network, and doesn't reside on any handheld device. It was good to get recognised - as most of the other apps were designed only for smart phones - while ours works from the most basic of phones. The showcase has generated some interest, and we have got some queries from some operators and corporates alike.”
Indonesia has the highest representation in the list with 14 applications and Singapore is a close second with 10 making it to the list. But the race is not over! The Top 50 poll was a test of popularity, but in the next stage of the competition, the Top 10 apps will be selected based on merit by an internal panel of judges. And the prizes?
The Top 10 apps will receive:
- Three months rent-free stay at Plug and Play Tech Centre in Silicon Valley - Access to a deal room session to pitch their products directly to the region’s top telcos under the Singtel umbrella. - Get the app in front of 1,500 tech and mobile industry movers and shakers. - Two passes to Accelerate 2010 worth SGD798 - Subsidized travel for one person to attend Accelerate 2010 - Special price on demo pits
